SEALERS

What is polished concrete?
Polished concrete is a mirror-like floor that enhances any location. There are a wide range of colors and patterns that can be achieved on the floor, depending on the client’s needs. The shine is achieved using acrylics, polyurethanes or epoxies. Heavy duty machines with diamond impregnated disks grind the concrete surface with different sets of grits until a scratch-free floor is achieved.

There are a few methods and styles used to grind the concrete surface. The most commonly used method is the dry method, but there is also a wet method. At Conexxo Floors, we prefer the dry method, which uses commercial vacuums in combination with grinding machines to grind the concrete until it’s dust free.

ACRYLICS

How do they function?
They form a thin protective layer on the concrete surface and are available with either a solvent base or water base.

Application
They can be used on interior or exterior, and achieve a beautiful look. They are very economical.

Finish
They are available in a wide range of colors, textures, mixes and solids. Solvent base sealers provide a better look and lasting protection.

Performance
Provides great protection against Clorox products, chemicals and water. However, they do not last as long as polyurethanes and epoxies.

PENETRATING SEALERS

How do they function?
Penetrating sealers react chemically within the concrete to shield against moisture and chemicals.

Applications
This sealer is good for exterior applications, where the desired look of the concrete is natural.

Finish
Provides protection without changing the appearance of the floor.

Epoxies

How do they function?
Epoxies are two part sealers that form a very thick layer of sealer.

Applications
They are a great option for customers looking for a seamless floor. Epoxies can cover imperfections on the concrete. They are only applied on interiors because they are UV intolerant.

Finish
Most epoxies give a glossy finish and are available in clear or pigmented colors.

Performance
Applied correctly, this sealer offers the best chemical and abrasion resistance. However, they are moisture intolerant.

POLYURETHANES

How do they function?
They are extremely hard and form a thick buildup of sealer.

Applications
This can be used either for interior or exterior applications. They perform very well in high traffic areas and are available in solvent base and water base.

Finish
The finish of this sealer is clean and will not yellow.

Performance
This type of sealer is almost twice as thick as acrylic sealers. They provide protection against a wide range of chemicals and are abrasion resistant.
